Introduction to Balinese Gamelan

A gamelan is a traditional Indonesian ensemble comprised of mainly percussion, including gongs, metallophones, and drums. In Bali, gamelan is used to accompany ceremonies, rituals, celebrations, and shadow puppet plays. Join us for this introduction to the instruments and music of Balinese gamelan, and play with the award-winning Gamelan Anak Swarasanti. In this ongoing workshop we will learn sitting angklung and marching beleganjur pieces.

In this session we will practice Kecak, Balinese Monkey Chant and Angklung, sitting gamelan in preparation for two upcoming performances.
