The Santa Cruz Community Art Show








This email is to announce the Santa Cruz Community Art Show, which will be held Sunday, June 20, 2010 from 1pm to 6pm at SubRosa Cafe, which is located at 703 Pacific Ave, Santa Cruz, CA, 831-426-5242 (http://subrosaproject.org/) The event is free.


A special preview of the work of some of the artists involved with the Santa Cruz Community Art Show will be on view at UCSC's Open Studios on Friday, June 4th, Noon-4pm.

Conceived by Bela Messex and Hana Weiss, the Santa Cruz Community Art Show has been organized with the intention of bringing together the widest range of artists possible in the Santa Cruz area, and to provide a forum for them to share their artwork with the local community. The selection of artists, and artwork to be shown, was based on the 'no jury' process, where in addition to hand selecting artists through word of mouth and networking, calls for art were made publicly through classified ads. Throughout the process, all artists showing a commitment to the creation of art were invited to exhibit their work.
While this show is the first arts event organized by Messex and Weiss, who are UCSC students majoring in art and members of the local band Harlequin Baby (http://www.myspace.com/harlequinbabyz), they are no strangers to organizing events, as they have produced many musical shows at the now legendary local gig den, 215 Storey. They now hope to transfer that experience to the local art scene with the Santa Cruz Community Art Show.
A wide variety of artists will be presenting their work, which includes 2D and 3D mediums, as well as performance art.
